Almuñecar (Andalusia) - Spain

Almuñécar, situated between the sea and mountains in the province of Granada, is a small town known for its beautiful beaches on the Mediterranean coast of Spain and its unique tropical climate in Europe, hence the name “Costa Tropical”.

However, Almuñécar has much more to offer due to the many cultures that settled here. Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs and Christians have left their mark here, for example the Moorish Castle of San Miguel, which dominates the town, and many other archaeological remains. It also has a picturesque old town with typical white Andalusian houses, narrow streets and courtyards filled with flowers.

Its privileged location and climate (29°C on average in summer and 18 degrees in winter) make Almuñécar a unique attraction for tourists, mostly Spanish.

The coast of Almuñécar has 19 km of beautiful beaches, hidden coves and crystal clear waters, especially recommended for water sports such as windsurfing, diving, etc.. Being so close to the coastal mountains also makes it a perfect spot for practicing outdoor sports such as paragliding, hiking, etc..

Although it is a fishing village, Almuñécar's economy is also based on the plantations of the tropical fruits that grow here: cherimoya, kiwifruit, avocado, loquat, etc.. You'll also find many family-run restaurants where you can eat fresh local products at an affordable price.

The Majuelo Botanical Park, located near the beach right below the castle, gives the visitor a shady spot to relax and enjoy its more than 180 types of palm trees and tropical plants. Inside you'll be amazed to discover the remains of a Roman fish salting factory. The park is also used as an outdoor auditorium for concerts, and hosts the International Jazz Festival of Almuñécar each summer which attracts many renowned international artists.

The waterpark "Aquatropic" is ideal for young people and families, with more than 18,000 m² of pools, water slides and green zones. Another must is the Aquarium of Almuñecar.
